Low Carb Diet - Is It Healthy?


Losing weight has become a major concern for many people today. In order to achieve the desired physique, they adopt many unhealthy practices from starving to fierce work outs. Taking fewer carbs is one of them. Carbohydrates help in regulating the insulin level which stabilizes blood sugar. Lack of carbohydrates in the body not only increases the risk of diabetes but also causes many serious health problems.

Carbohydrates form glucose and the excessive glucose which is not used by the body is converted to fat. So, people avoid taking carbohydrate at all. This not only reduces the glucose level but also makes the body fall short of energy. Losing these few fats at the cost of health is not advisable.

If you consume a low carb diet, it will not provide the required carbohydrates to the body. This in turn leads to the burning of the cabs that are already stored to produce energy. In this process, water is released from the body and you start losing weight.
On contrary, sometimes there is high fat present in a low carb diet, thus, reduced energy levels with more intake of fat. As we already know, fats increase the risk of heart diseases. This is not a proper way to justify your diet risking your health.

Atkins diet is one of the low carb diets. It decreases the carbohydrates to as low as 20 g with the standard 130g. Fresh fruits and vegetables, rice, beans and grains are restricted in this diet. This leads to the lack of antioxidants and vitamins and can cause cancer and other dangerous irreversible diseases. It doesn’t mean people don’t believe in Atkins, in fact it needs a proper balance and use of Atkins diet in your weight loss program.

Initially, due to the loss of water in the body, this low carb diet helps to lose weight. The calorie intake degrades to 1000 as compared to the necessary 2000 calories. You can consult your doctor or a dietician, and find out the harmful effects of low carb diet.
There are many other ways to restrict the calorie count, other than low carb diet. Regular exercise is one of them.

Overweight or obesity can be cured by a nutritious diet and regular exercise. You should not forget the role of excess water in weight loss. Most importantly, you need to keep an account on the calorie intake together with a regular exercise regime and a balanced lifestyle.
