Fad or Bad
Would You Want to Lose Weight Through Fad Diets?
Do you know someone overweight? Most probable than not, he or she is taking a Fad Diet. This diet is one popular weight loss program. It’s one of the quickest ways to lose weight. Yet, many experts label it as an unhealthy practice. Cabbage soup, Atkins, Grape fruit, zone and the three-day diet are just some of the most common fad diets. These diets may lose you some pounds fast but, in the process, health gets affected.
Cabbage Soup Diet
Cabbage soup is considered one the best among fad diets that can kill those fats dramatically. You add the soup to each meal for 7 days. It’s effective for a short period time only. It’s deprived of rich nutrients, calcium and proteins. Consequently, it causes you gas and physical discomfort and also, weakens the body.
Atkins Diet
Atkins diet was propagated by Dr. Robert Atkins. It’s so popular that my friend enrolled himself under this program. Atkins is based on a process called Ketosis. This is made possible by the body’s secretion of less insulin whenever one takes less fat. Insulin is the one responsible in converting carbohydrates into fats. Since less insulin is produced, less fat is formed. Atkins diet promotes protein-rich diet and makes you reduce your intake of carbohydrates which is the main source of energy. This is its major draw back. It deprives you of energy and makes your body weak.
Grape Fruit Diet
Yes! Grapes have weight loss properties. It’s high in fibre and vitamin C. Grape acts as a catalyst in the process of burning fat in the body. It actually speeds up the process. That is the reason why many foods are served with grapes as the base. Grape fruit diet also reduces insulin levels. People stop eating proper food with the idea that only grapes have miraculous weight-loss properties. Consequently, they suffer from malnutrition and from weaker health.
Zone Diet
Based on the ratio of nutrients, Dr. Barry Sears created the Zone diet. The ratio that he proposed was 4:3:3, that is to say 40% carbohydrates, 30% proteins and 30% fat. This diet is considered as the perfect fad diet. Less carbohydrate-intake is the focus of this diet. However, sticking to the ratio poses a big problem.
Three Day Diet
This is a short term weight loss strategy. This diet is low in calories. Weight loss happens due to less calorie intake. While undergoing the process, the person engaged to this starves a lot and soon returns to his regular habit and put on weight again.
As you can see, Fad Diets are low in carbohydrates and due to less calories, the body’s metabolism is reduced. Less physical activity and the monotony of the diet makes it very boring. It seems like you’re on a strict training that is again boring. When the person involved returns to his normal eating habit, weight increases rapidly. Hence, Fad Diet is not recommended to lose you weight. |
